Accessibility
We design the website and the GUS platform to be usable by as many people as possible. Here's the standard we hold ourselves to, and how to tell us if we fall short.
SilaCities is committed to making our website and platform accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities, government officials and urban planners of all abilities, and users on any device. Accessibility isn’t a feature we bolt on; it’s a standard we hold every release to.
Our standard
We work to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA across the website and platform. Where we fall short, we disclose that here and work to close the gap.
What we support
- Keyboard navigation across every interactive element
- Screen-reader support with semantic HTML and ARIA landmarks
- Sufficient colour contrast, with contrast-checked palettes
- Resizable text without loss of content or functionality
- Alt text on meaningful images, captions on complex visuals
- Native right-to-left layout for Arabic, including mirrored icons and controls
- Focus-visible styling so keyboard users can always see where they are
- Reduced-motion support, animations respect the user’s OS preference
Known limits
A handful of complex visualisations in the platform rely on colour alone to encode meaning. We’re working to add shape and pattern encodings so colour becomes one of several cues. Complex interactive maps may be difficult to interpret with a screen reader alone, alternative tabular views are provided for most layers.
Assistive technologies we test
We test regularly with:
- NVDA on Firefox and Chrome (Windows)
- VoiceOver on Safari (macOS and iOS)
- TalkBack on Chrome (Android)
- Keyboard-only navigation
- High-contrast and dark-mode modes
Help us improve
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on the site or the platform, please tell us. Email accessibility@silacities.com with:
- The page or feature where you encountered the barrier
- The assistive technology and browser you were using
- A short description of what happened, and what you expected
We aim to respond within two business days and to address high-impact issues as a priority.
Formal complaints
If you’ve raised an accessibility concern and are dissatisfied with our response, you can escalate to the relevant regulatory body in your jurisdiction. We will cooperate with all such bodies in good faith.
